Every year our schools puts on a Lunar New Year Celebration performed by our children. Each child spends weeks learning the songs and dances and are always so excited to show their hard work. It takes many weeks of preparation by our teachers, prop making and rehearsals to make the production a success.
All the little ghouls, princesses, witches and ghosts of GMIS came out for the annual Halloween parade and party! Our children decorated trick or treat bags in the classroom which they brought with them on their walk. After the parade, they could find their decorated pumpkins and balloons in the pumpkin patch. Fun time was had by all!
The Winter Celebration and Pot Luck is a special event for all families to come together and listen to their children sing Christmas songs, like Jingle Bells and Merry Christmas. Special thanks goes to our music teachers, Laura and Jon and the vocalists who keep us entertained while everyone enjoys the Potluck lunch.
During Thanksgiving our children focus on thankfulness and “Stone Soup”. Teachers read the story “Stone Soup” to their classes and talk about the importance of giving and caring about one another. The children will cook Stone Soup together and the campus becomes infused with the wonderful smells of cooking soup and warm bread.
Mid-Autumn Festival is one of China’s biggest traditional festival. Family will get together to celebrate it while appreciating the beautiful round moon and eating moon cake. To celebrate the Moon Festival, children paint beautiful paper lanterns and made moon cakes. Teachers will also share stories and folktales on the origins and traditions of the Mid-Autumn, aka Moon Festival.
Each year we celebrate the success of each child who graduates our school and moves onto elementary school. At our Graduation Ceremony we acknowledge each child’s achievements and wish them farewell as they venture into new horizons in their lives. Each time we are moved by pride and love for each child – many of whom have been at our school since just 2 years old.
