Students plant both fall and spring gardens full of seasonal vegetables, and fruits. They are responsible for watering and caring for their gardens as well as eating the results of their work. Planting seeds and watching them grow helps children learn about the growth process, the environment and the food they eat. Weeding and watering a garden encourages physical activity and teaches responsibility.
Students peel, chop, dice, measure and mix different recipes 2-3 days per month. Cooking with kids provides practical experience with many essential skills such as reading, following directions, and measuring. Getting involved in cooking helps your child to develop fine motor skills, eye hand coordination, and even early concepts of math and science.
