At GMIS, the children are always full of excitement to begin their Enrichment classes, especially at the beginning of the semester. With dance, art, gardening, music with Mr. Jon & Ms. Laura, and Soccer Shots with Coach Raul, the children have plenty to be excited about!
Each class has designated outdoor times in which they go out to the garden and outdoor classroom in the patio area. A set of Montessori works are available on the outdoor shelves and each class spends time throughout the week in this outdoor learning environment. Dr. Maria Montessori felt that the outdoor environment should be an extension of the classroom and we are so fortunate to have the beautiful space to create this key setting of Montessori learning.
After finishing up in the outdoor classroom, the children head to the gardening area which has raised bed planter boxes filled with herbs and vegetables. Our big garden is also constantly being replenished with seasonal greens such as kale and various leafy greens to show the children how easy it is to grow our food. Teachers can then create wonderful and healthy home-grown foods in cooking class with all of these great vegetables.
